Grid exporting


The battery’s remaining energy and any excess solar generation are exported to the grid to maximise profit from high electricity prices. This strategy is based on forecasts of sufficient solar generation in the afternoon, ensuring the battery will fully charge from the sun.

Peak shaving


Discharges the energy from the battery to cover all household consumption during the evening when electricity is at its highest price. This ensures the household operates only on stored energy, avoiding the most expensive electricity from the grid.


As a result, electricity from the grid was used mainly to charge the battery during the cheapest hours, and the costs incurred were entirely offset by income from selling excess energy back to the grid at peak prices, reducing Emma’s daily bill to zero.
